Dalí • Vermeer
Around the Étude paranoïaque-critique de « La Dentellière »
Archives of Magdeleine Hours
From June 8 to July 6, 2023, booksellers Librairie Le Pas Sage and Librarie-Galerie Emmanuel Fradois will exhibit the genesis of one of Salvador Dalí's masterpieces: Étude paranoïaque-critique de « La Dentellière » currently owned by the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
One of the rare palettes signed by Dalí —still carrying the dried-up colors of the rhinoceros' triple-horn— as well as letters and books with inscribed drawings are the surviving testimonies of a fruitful collaboration between Salvador Dalí and Magdeleine Hours, director of the Louvre Museum's Laboratory. Never-before-seen photographs capture a curious experience around Vermeer's The Lacemaker.
More than the creation of a simple painting, this collection draws us into one of the most precocious and encompassing Dalinean obsessions—and documents the initial stage of a comprehensive artwork that would become a precursor of the performance arts.
From June 8 to July 6 at Librairie Le Pas Sage, 80 Rue Joseph de Maistre, Paris 18th. Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
