[CATALOGUE] Kieffer Library René Kieffer 1875-1963 Michel Kieffer 1916-1991
90 fine bindings by René and Michel Kieffer
106-page price-marked paper catalogue with colour reproductions of all the works presented.
Around one hundred beautiful editions, most of them bound by Kieffer Père et fils for their library.
A bookbinder, publisher and bookseller, René Kieffer was active in the first half of the twentieth century, accompanying books through a period marked both by the modernisation of bookbinding decoration, influenced by the Art Deco movement, and by the emergence of a new category of bibliophile focused on the ‘illustrator's book’. His son Michel, who became the workshop's first worker in 1935, took over until 1963.
"Of all the catalogues we found at the Paris fair, the one which seems most likely to find a permanent place on collectors' reference shelves came from LIBRAIRIE-GALERIE EMMANUEL FRADOIS, entitled simply Kieffer." (The Book Collector, Autumn 2024)
